BMD's disappointment

Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) president, Gomolemo Motswaledi, has expressed disappointment over the party policy chief's public statements on the umbrella project.

Motswaledi, writing in a media missive, says that Gaolathe should not have conveyed his personal views to the public the way he did at a very sensitive stage in the project, which the masses have anchored their hopes for a better Botswana after 2014. The party leader said he met with Gaolathe on Thursday and told the latter that he was dismayed at the breach of protocol and collective responsibility in his decision to publish the article.

He said the party's inaugural congress held at St Joseph's College in April,"entrusted us with the mandate of leading and growing the BMD a resolution was unanimously adopted to engage in dialogue with other opposition parties with a view to terminating the BDP's long tenure in power at the next elections. It pains me as leader of the BMD to indicate that though in internal debates, Gaolathe had expressed his reservations about the Umbrella Project, we were not aware such would be made public. We do not believe we are any different from our cooperating partners where there is extensive, and necessary internal debate on the nature of the Umbrella Project.
