The president of the Botswana Movement for Democracy Youth League (BMDYL), Phenyo Segokgo, says they have declared war on satanism.

Speaking at a press conference in Gaborone yesterday, the newly elected youth leader said the recent revelation by the Directorate of Intelligence and Securitys (DIS) director general, Isaac Kgosi, that satanism is highly practised in Botswana, has them worried.Segokgo said his newly-elected youth committee has decided to use the church as a platform to fight satanism. He disclosed that they attended a service at the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) in Mahalapye where they prayed against satanism over the weekend.  He speculated that satanism could be the cause of problems bedevilling Botswana, especially economic challenges.

"We have resolved to give the church its rightful place in the fight against this growing phenomenon of the forces of darkness. Even as we acknowledge and embrace other forms as they are religions allowed in a democratic setup, we as the youth, have seen it fit to align ourselves with and ask for blessings and guidance from churches," he said.He also said that they are appalled by President Ian Khama's lack of sensitivity towards the Kalafatis family by freeing John Kalafatis' killers through a presidential pardon.  Segokgo said the pardon has dented the country's justice system and its independence. The youth leader said they will be lobbying their MPs and their Umbrella partner, the Botswana National Front (BNF) to push for Parliament to commission an inquiry on the saga.He said the real culprits, who ordered Kalafatis' killing, should be brought to book.
