BMD youth committee to be replaced in April

Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) will not replace the resigned youth league committee until the April youth elections billed for Selebi-Phikwe.

The party vice secretary general, Gilbert Mangole said they did not find it necessary to instantly replace the committee because the elections are near. He said even if they were to replace it, the new committee will not have any thing to do as all the party energy is now focused on preparing for the election. Despite criticising the resigned committee, Mangole said that members who were in the previous committee are at liberty to stand for elections if they wish to do so.

He said it was unfortunate that they could not stop them from contesting because it is their legal right. "That is a political weakness and there nothing we can do about it," he said.  He said some resigned members had valid reasons and thought if given the right motivation and environment they can benefit the party. BMD youth league resigned from the committee and with three of them leaving the party to join Botswana Democratic Party citing instability in BMD.
