The Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) is racing against time to elect delegates to its inaugural congress slated for the end of this month.

In an interview with Mmegi, the BMD official responsible for mobilisation Kabo Morwaeng revealed that the party had so far managed to elect delegates from more than half of the 57 constituencies in the country. He said the plan was to have every constituency represented at the congress.  "We are a big party and we want our first congress, which is very significant in the formation of a new party, to reflect how big we are," Morwaeng said.

"The mobilisation committee is meeting today to find out how far we are in preparations for the big day." The congress will be held at Gaborone Senior Secondary School from March 24-27. Morwaeng said, this week the interim executive committee was meeting to discuss the agenda for the congress and logistical issues.
