Modubule and Mangole were the focus of factional rage on Tuesday

The Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) headquarters were on Tuesday evening turned into a war zone when activists alleged to be bodyguards to the party president, Ndaba Gaolathe, reportedly pounced on and allegedly assaulted secretary general, Gilbert Mangole and chairman Nehemiah Modubule.

The incident, following the latest public outbursts amid simmering divisions within the BMD, is said to have occurred after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the party. The NWC had met in order to take a resolution regarding the youth congress, which has been postponed.

The NWC had just finished its meeting, and as the two leaders were heading to their vehicles, they were allegedly manhandled by former Serowe South candidate, Iphemele Kgokgothwane and other activists.
