BLLAWU's Petition Against DO In Vain?

FRANCISTOWN: The District Commissioner (DC) for Central District is being urged to take action against a Tonota Sub District Officer (DO) for 'insubordination' after the latter refused to accede to the former's ruling that council staff be allocated accommodation in Tonota.

The Tonota branch of Botswana Landboards and Local Authorities Workers Union (BLLAWU) was supposed to petition DO Pamela Nasha yesterday but they could not because the latter has not written a letter to the police that she would accept the petition. In their petition to DC Lorato Plaatje, they said the petition against the DO was necessitated by Nasha's intransigence, denying council staff accommodation yet the project memo shows exactly how the houses should be allocated and occupied by different departments upon completion.

The petition says that Plaatje came to Tonota on July 2 to try and solve the impasse but "we are reliably informed that the DO did not bulge". It continues: "This to us is a clear act of insubordination and she should therefore be reprimanded or tougher discipline action be taken as this sets a bad precedent to other public officers either directly under her supervision or indirectly."
