BLLAWU petitions DC over Tonota DO

FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Land Board and Local Authorities Workers Union (BLLAWU) will petition the Central District Commissioner (DC), Lorato Plaatje today over mismanagement at the Tonota sub-district office.

The union will be joined by Tonota sub-district workers. BLLAWU said the petition has been necessitated by the performance of Tonota District Officer (DO) Pamela Nasha. It is said the DO is mismanaging the affairs of the sub-district and denying council staff decent accommodation at Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) quarters. The BLLAWU Tonota branch vice chairperson Motsei Nkomo said he will lead fellow workers and deliver the petition this afternoon.

BLLAWU said the petition against the DO was necessitated by her refusal to deny council staff BHC accommodation yet the project memo showed exactly how the houses would be allocated and occupied by different departments on completion. The petition says that Plaatje visited Tonota on July 2 and try to solve the problem but "we are reliably informed that the District Officer did not bulge".
