BIDPA pats govt on the back

Botswana's vastness and sparse population is said to be making it costly to provide services to isolated settlements.

According to the Botswana Institute for Development and Policy Analysis (BIDPA) 2008 Report, social services like education, water reticulation, sanitation and health are not available to remote settlements in the same quality as in urban areas like towns and major villages.

The report also decries the absence of transport in remote areas. People in these areas are often malnourished and their literacy levels low, due to low enrolments in schools, whilst clinics experience acute shortages of drugs and lack of building maintenance.
