Beware of heatwave

The Department of Meteorological Services has warned that a heatwave and thunderstorms that started on Saturday will rage throughout the country until Wednesday.

Sweltering heat is predicted to reach highs of 41 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country. When the extreme weather pattern started on Saturday, maximum temperatures of 38¡ C were recorded over the north and western parts of the country. On Sunday, extremely hot conditions ranging between 38¡ C and 41¡ C spread across the whole country. "Due to the excessive heat, there is a likelihood of occasional thunderstorms with gusty winds and showers occurring in places," the Met says.
