Behave - Modubule Tells Mbaakanyi

Lobatse legislator Nehemiah Modubule is one of the few MPs who have the privilege of sitting with one of his constituents in Parliament. However such honour can be a source of headache especially if the constituent MP is a political rival from another party.

Modubule found this out last Friday when Assistant Minister of Education, Moggie Mbaakanyi made a contribution in Parliament as a "representative of Lobatse". The two contested the Lobatse seat in the last elections with Modubule emerging tops but Mbaakanyi had the last laugh when she entered Parliament through nomination by the President and made it to the cabinet as Assistant Minister of Education. That is why she rubbed Modubule the wrong way by branding herself a representative of Lobatse people while contributing to a motion by Gaborone West South MP Robert Molefhabangwe. After several attempts to catch the eye of the Speaker, Modubule who had made his contribution was finally granted a hearing. He wasted no time in taking on Mbaakanyi who unfortunately had left the chamber. He said the Assistant Minister should stop  misbehaving by saying she is the MP for Lobatse. He stated that the people of Lobatse have made it clear that they do not want her and that she made it to Parliament as a nominated MP "with no constituency". "Mbaakanyi a re o emetse Lobatse, a re ke mopalamente wa Lobatse e kete o tlaa talela," he warned adding that she must desist from telling people that she is MP for Lobatse. In his earlier contribution, Modubule called for an amendment to the motion to insert words "industrial and commercial hubs as a strategy to address..." instead of the original motion requesting government to "establish Palapye as an industrial hub...".

Before she walked out of the chamber, Mbaakanyi expressed concern that Lobatse was not mentioned as one of the industrial hubs in the motion.
