BEA hosts privatisation talks

FRANCISTOWN: The Botswana Economics Association (BEA), in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), will host a conference on privatisation at Boipuso Hall, Gaborone Fairgrounds, tomorrow.

The conference is in line with the Botswana government's accelerated campaign to increase citizen economic empowerment through privatisation of parastatal organisations and companies. Speaking to Mmegi in Gaborone yesterday, BEA secretary Lesego Sekwati said that they have invited civil society organisations, policy analysts, the media and all interested individuals to the conference. "This will mark the first conference to be held in Gaborone.

It is the agenda of the government to increase citizen economic empowerment for it has discovered that the private sector in our country is weak and shallow. Therefore privatisation will help solve such problems," he said.
