The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Youth Wing chairman, Bontsi Monare, has declined to comment on the ruling yesterday by the African National Congress (ANC)suspending its Youth leader Julius Malema for five years.

Monare said it was too early to comment on the matter citing the pending appeal by the suspended group. However, he said that the BDP has confidence in the ANC and its internal party procedures that it would take the appropriate action. "Our comment would not add any value at this stage looking at the fact that the matter is still going to be appealed. But we respect the ANC position in disciplining its member," he said.

Malema and some senior members of the ANC Youth League were suspended yesterday after two months disciplinary hearings on charges of, amongst others, bringing the party into disrepute, sowing divisions in the party, as well as putting the country's international relations in danger. In August this year, the group, led by Malema announced that it was going to effect regime change in Botswana labelling the BDP government a puppet of imperialists, a move which the youth in Botswana opposition parties pronounced their support.
