BDP Triumphs In Sefophe

SEFOPHE: The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) continued its by-election winning spree on Saturday when it retained the council seat for Sefophe ward in the Mmadinare constituency.

Thatayaone Segona of the ruling party survived his Botswana Congress Party (BCP) opponent Mokwaledi Bagwasi in a tensely contested seat with a margin of 17 votes, only three votes difference from the 2004 general elections. Of the 1042 votes that were cast in all the three polling stations, BDP got 485 while BCP garnered 468. BNF on the other hand went away with only 61 votes. Twenty-eight of the total votes were spoiled.

Though the mood of the electorates outside the premises of Sefophe Community Junior Secondary School where counting took place was good, the opposite characterised the tense faces of those who observed the counting inside the hall.
