BDP sub-committee woos the media

The chairman of the culture and publicity sub-committee of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Shaw Kgathi has said that they plan to create a good relationship with the media.

Speaking at a dinner in Gaborone on Tuesday, Kgathi acknowledged the media as a critical player in disseminating information and informing people. He promised that his sub-committee will share party policy information with the media. He appealed to journalists to avoid publishing reports based on speculation.

As the general elections approach, Kgathi said their focus in the next two months will be on ensuring that the party wins 70 percent of the popular vote. "We have men and women full of energy and experience to do the job. We have assigned each of our members in the 12 regions to be our contact persons there. They will also have powers to speak to the media especially on issues relating to the regions in their jurisdiction. I would be representing BOMASE-Bobirwa, Madinare and Selebi-Phikwe region, my deputy Esther Norris would be responsible for SHOMA (Shoshong-Mahalapye) whilst secretary MacDonald Peloetletse looks after the LETSWAPO (Lerala, Tswapong and Palapye) region," he said.
