The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) will name its new executive secretary and secretary general next week. BDP deputy executive secretary, Lee Lesetedi told Mmegi yesterday that the ruling party central committee will go through a shortlist and decide who will become the executive secretary on Monday.

"They will also appoint a secretary general to replace (Kentse) Rammidi," he said. The BDP secretariat has been operating without a substantive executive secretary and secretary general after the departure of Dr Comma Serema and the resignation of Kanye North MP Kentse Rammidi. Lesetedi has been acting as executive secretary since the departure of Serema, while deputy secretary general, Malebogo Kruger is acting as secretary general.

Though many people are said to have applied for the post of executive secretary, the names that have cropped up frequently include BDP Youth League chairman Bontsi Monare and University of Botswana lecturer Lawrence Ookeditse.
