BDP prepares for 50th anniversary in BOMASE

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Preparations are on course for the celebration of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party's (BDP) golden jubilee slated for February 23 at General Freedom Square here.

The regional secretary of the Bobirwa, Mmadinare and Selebi-Phikwe (BOMASE), Mmapula Mmidi-Phuduhudu, told Mmegi this week that three constituencies had already made their contributions to a special fund for the celebration. She disclosed that branches of the party were tasked with funding the celebrations and that several of them had held raffles to raise the money.Mmidi-Phuduhudu said the BDP would recognise and reward party veterans in the region during the commemoration.

Meanwhile, the region has filled vacant positions on its committee. The treasurer is Malebogo Mosweu from Mmadinare constituency, Motapele Nginya from Selebi-Phikwe East is vice treasurer while Boitshepo Morebola of Bobirwa is the vice secretary. Tebogo Matlhogonolo and vice treasurer Tebogo Venson have returned to positions they held before."The positions fell vacant after some members decided to run in BDP primary elections," said Mmidi-Phuduhudu. "Party procedure is that when members contest elections, they must vacate their seats."She added that some of the issues raised at the meeting included visibility of the party in the region and recruitment of new members, which she described as crucial because of general elections next year.
