BDP postpones Motswaledi hearing

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Disciplinary Committee (DC) has postponed the hearing of the case against suspended secretary general, Gomolemo Motswaledi.

The BDP said yesterday that the case will be heard on Sunday. Motswaledi was suspended by President Ian Khama for 60 days last month pending a disciplinary hearing after Bobirwa MP and chairperson of the BDP Publicity Committee, Shaw Kgathi lodged a complaint against him. The MP said Motswaledi has brought the party's name into disrepute. Khama invoked powers granted him under the BDP constitution to slap Motswaledi with a suspension and recall him as a parliamentary candidate for Gaborone Central.

The case was pencilled for 3pm yesterday but BDP executive secretary, Dr Comma Serema said it could not go on as Motswaledi asked for a postponement on the basis that he still had a pending case at the Court of Appeal to be heard in Lobatse today. Serema told Mmegi that though the DC said the case at the Court of Appeal has no bearing on the hearing, they decided to grant Motswaledi the postponement.
