The new Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) youth leadership have pledged to do everything in their power to woo the youth of this country.

Speaking at a press conference held in Gaborone this week, BDP Youth League deputy chairperson Charles Majweng said they would like many Botswana youth join the ruling party."Re ya go ba ithatisa ka tsela tsotlhe tse re ka di kgonang. We will show them that the BDP is in fashion," he said. He also rubbished claims that the newly elected BDP National Youth Executive Committee is a faction elected on factional lines at the recent party youth congress in Sefhare.

Meanwhile, BDP Youth League chairman Andy Boatile said after being elected into power, his committee (NYEC) resolved that he would first meet with them prior to monthly party central committee meetings that are chaired by President Ian Khama. He said he would meet the BDP youth leadership to brief him on what issues they want him to put forward at the Khama-led committee.  Responding to critics' talk that they are a bunch of a BDP faction, Boatile said that it should be understood that the four lobby groups that campaigned for elections in Sefhare were just temporary lobby-lists made to prepare for elections, "but now we are just a BDP youth committee. You like to confuse factions and lobby-lists. There is no faction in this party. The only faction is the BDP," he said.
