BDP MPs divided on the strike, two chicken out

Members of Parliament from the ruling party convened at Parliamentary buildings yesterday to "find a solution" to the public sector strike that entered its fifth week yesterday. The objective of the meeting was to help find a solution to the ongoing strike that has crippled the operations of government.

But out of the 18 Members of Parliament, 12 attended the meeting whilst two apologies were sent. According to a source, MP for Gaborone West North Robert Masitara and Letlhakeng West MP Liakak Kablay gave unsatisfactory reasons for their absence. "Their reasons were not convincing at all," said the MP who preferred not to be mentioned by name. Serowe North MP Ndelu Seretse is in Ethiopia attending an official meeting, Tawana Moremi was held up somewhere, Charles Tibone is also out of the country, Kagiso Molatlhegi sent an apology, Prince Maele was held up somewhere, whilst Slumber Tsogwane and Raynor Makosha also sent apologies, said the source.

But contacted for comment Kablay said he was only informed about the meeting late - "Batho gaba kake ba phadimoga fela ba bo bare go na le meeting," he said "These people can't just wake up and say there is a meeting, we have other commitments in our constituencies.
