BOBONONG: Vice President Mompati Merafhe has warned ruling party members against complacency and under-estimating the opposition in the general elections. Addressing Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members in Bobonong during the launch of candidates in the constituency over the weekend, Merafhe urged the electorate to take the opposition seriously and treat them as rivals who have the potential to win elections.

"Stand up, work hard and realise that a vote is not an entitlement it must be earned," he said.

He added that there is no way the opposition can be trusted with power while they are still characterised by internal fights and instability. "They do not have the power to rule the country if they are still fighting for party positions. They are just incubators of hatred and that is what has brought them together. We still want peace to prevail in our country."
