BDP Landslide

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) won the 2009 general elections with a landslide.

The BDP got 45 parliamentary seats out of the 57 that were contested. Though it lost some of its seats, it compensated by winning those held the Botswana National Front (BNF). The BNF got a paltry six seats, down from the 12 they had after the 2004 elections. The BNF did badly both in the council and parliamentary elections.

The greatest benefactor was the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) who got five parliamentary seats. BCP had only one Member of Parliament in the 2004 elections. Nehemiah Modubule is the only independent candidate who made it to Parliament when he won the Lobatse constituency.
