The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has been accused of paying lows wages, failure to pay overtime and pension by its employees

FRANCISTOWN: The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is flouting the country's labour laws with abandon. BDP staff say they are paid a pittance,  they are not paid overtime or pension.

"People have often assumed that just because we work in the office of the ruling party then we were enjoying the best of treatment, that is not true. We are apparently the lowest paid in the country yet we do a lot to ensure that the party remains in power," protested one of the concerned employees who pleaded anonymity for fear of reprisals. Not only does the party pay slave salaries to its staff. It has no pension or gratuity for its workers, they say.
