BDP faction hijacks Day of the Child

FRANCISTOWN: The Nkate-Merafhe alliance of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) hijacked celebrations to mark the Day of the African Child in Francistown this week to advance its factional interests.

The faction members used BDP Francistown East constituency youth to hold a demonstration and lash out at their rivals in the Kedikilwe-Kwelagobe alliance. The organising committee made matters worse by failing to invite representatives from the other two Francistown constituencies, which are dominated by those in the Kedikilwe-Kwelagobe axis.

One of the key speakers at the demonstration and Francistown BDP region chairperson, Botho Ntirang took the opportunity to attack the Kedikilwe-Kwelagobe faction for claiming to be protecting the constitution of the party.
