BDP faactions fail to sully voters' appetite

Opposition parties might have counted on the Botswana Democratic Party's (BDP) raging factionalism working in their favour in the Tsholofelo South by-election last weekend, but that was not to be.

During the by-election, focus was on the BDP as the party has been engulfed in flames. People were wondering whether the embattled BDP would make it. But the BDP went on to defy its detractors by retaining the Gaborone North council seat.

The Tsholofelo South by-election came at a trying time for the BDP when members of the Barata Phathi faction are threatening to break away and form their own party.
