BDP bid for congress compromise flops

An effort by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for consensus candidates ahead of the July congress has flopped, with only three candidates bowing out of the race for others.

The ruling party goes for a bruising electoral battle in Tonota from July 7 to 9, which is expected to pit Mokgweetsi Masisi and Nonofo Molefhi in a two-way race for the chairmanship.

BDP secretary general, Botsalo Ntuane told journalists on Tuesday that the efforts for a compromise had largely fallen flat.
