MOKOBAXANE: The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) reaffirmed its dominance in the Boteti South constituency over the weekend when it managed a slight victory over the Botswana National Front (BNF) to clinch the Mokobaxane-Kedia council ward.

The BDP had fielded 32-year-old Sidney Bothokobostile, while the BNF was represented by 35-year-old Obonye Lobang at the polls.Out of the 947 individuals who voted, 478 voted for the ruling party while the BNF garnered 469 votes. It fell short of clinching the ward with nine votes. Twenty-one votes were spoilt.

In an interview with The Monitor BDP campaign manager for the by-elections, Prince Maele, said that it was written on the wall that BDP will emerge victorious at the polls."We assembled a very good campaign team made up of experienced politicians and I see no reason we could not win the polls. We also managed to reach out a lot of people and the response was very positive," he said.  He pointed out that the BDP also benefited from the infighting between opposition parties. According to him some electorate have lost faith in the opposition parties because of their current squabbles hence they voted for the ruling party.
