One soldier has died following an accident at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) on Friday morning, the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) has confirmed.

A press statement issued by the military stated that one of their own was overrun by a mobile gun system leading to fatal injuries in line of work. "BDF wishes to inform members of the public about the unfortunate incident in which a member of BDF stationed at SSKB was fatally overrun by a mobile gun system in an accident that happened this morning at SSKB," reads the release.

The BDF added the deceased was part of the gun crew that was scheduled for a training programme aimed at the force readiness. Investigations into the tragedy are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of the soldier.
