The Speaker met with opposition members of Parliament yesterday morning to sort out the matter, but there was no agreement between the parties.

In addition, Madam Speaker said the Standing Orders are ambiguous on the extent to which the coalition can be appointed as the main opposition if it not inclusive of all parties and she had to make that decision.

Interpretation and/or application of a standing order and cases not provided for, are the speaker's discretion.  "It is my considered decision, that while the provisions for Standing Orders 9.3, read together SO 931, and SO 7.4 make provisions for leader of opposition to be spokesperson for a coalition, the said provisions are however ambiguous with respect to the appointment of a leader of the opposition where there is a coalition that is not inclusive of all opposition parties in the House" she said.
