SELEBI-PHIKWE: The opposition Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has set a target for some of its council candidates in next year's general elections and warned of dire consequences should any of them fail to meet the threshold.

The party targets to win 51 percent of the vote in 54 wards in Bobirwa, Selebi-Phikwe, Tswapong, Mmadinare and Palapye areas. These have been ranked category 'A' constituencies and council candidates who fail to reach the 51 percent target have been warned of dire consequences.

Speaking on the sidelines of a one-day workshop for BCP council candidates from the Bobirwa, Selebi-Phikwe, Tswapong, Mmadinare and Palapye, the party regional chairperson, Nzwaligwa Nzwaligwa said they want to win 51 percent of the vote in each ward in constituencies they have identified as high priority, with good chances of victory.
He said candidates are expected to report to the party at regular intervals on their progress.
