BCP rally disrupted by strong winds

FRANCISTOWN: As parliamentary hopeful for Francistown South, Vain Mamela stood up to address the crowd at the taxi rank on Wednesday, a wind carrying an assortment of debris from the rank and railway line, whistled through the microphone muffling Mamela's address.

This disruption of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) was certainly unexpected and the crowd was suddenly using their hands to shield their faces.

Fortunately, Mamela who is also the former MP for Francistown West was the last to speak, but in the end he could only say: "Ija ja! I have just come out of a bout of flu and this all over again!" It took close to three minutes for the wind to subside, but by then, it was every man for himself and God for us all as people scurried for cover under the eaves of shops and inside waiting taxis. An old woman who was standing by suddenly decided she would have none of this nasty weather and rushed headlong into a taxi as she exclaimed:"E heee! Ke gone go roga Morwa Khama! Ga se yoo rogiwang yoo "(A haaa! It's because of insulting the Son of Khama. Never dare insult that one!) However, the speakers who had come before Mamela had made maximum use of their time. The fiery councillor for Ikageleng ward, Tabengwa Tabengwa was incensed by a taxi driver who had heckled the previous speakers.
