BCP protests Moshupa school invite

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has protested the invitation of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) candidate for Moshupa constituency, Mookgwetsi Masisi to officiate at a secondary school function in the village.

The BCP chief coordinator in Moshupa constituency, Sethibe Sethibe has written a letter to the head of Diratsame Community Secondary School (CSS) about the matter saying it is tantamount to her participating in the BDP campaigns.

"We strongly feel this is a direct participation on the BDP campaigns. We kindly wish to request for clarification on the criteria you used in selecting this particular guest speaker and we wish to request that you get another person to officiate at this important event," Sethibe said. He told Mmegi that it was clear the objective of the invite is to boost Masisi's campaign. He said when they spoke to the school head, she stated that there is nothing wrong with inviting Masisi. She allegedly said she never considered that he was a parliamentary candidate and the invite is going to give him an advantage. But Sethibe insists this is a deliberate way of launching Masisi. He said Masisi was going to distribute awards at the ceremony and people will think they originate from him.
