BCP members suspended from SRC

Two Botswana Congress Party (BCP) members were recently suspended from the fragile University of Botswana Student Representative Council (UBSRC).

The council is a coalition of student wings of the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), the Botswana National Front (BNF) and the BCP. SRC president Jacob Kelebeng has relieved minister of information Boitumelo Ntsima and minister of bar and canteen Vincent Motswakae of their duties pending a disciplinary hearing.

According to their suspension letters, they disrespected the executive and embezzled proceeds of the last Fresher's Ball. Ntsima is further accused of issuing statements on behalf of the SRC without the approval of the executive. His suspension letter faults him for "releasing unauthorised memorandums, conducting an unauthorised press conference in the name of the SRC, forming an SRC fan page on social sites still unauthorised and attacked the SRC and students in it, creating fake accounts on social sites to attack fellow SRC members and using SRC funds without authorisation and permission from the SRC".
