BCP loses councillor to BNF

Oliphant Drift/Ramotlabaki councillor, Letsebe Letsebe re-joined the Botswana National Front (BNF) on Wednesday after he resigned from the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

Letsebe defected from the BNF to join the BCP in April. He states in his resignation letter that he was not comfortable with the ideology and policies of the BCP.  He said as a party that formed out of a BNF split, BCP has developed policies that are very similar to those of the former. He said it is insignificant for him to stay within a party that has nothing different to offer. Letsebe said his followers influenced his decision, as they constantly told him that they were unhappy with his defection."People should know that 85 percent of my voters said they did not like that I had joined congress (BCP), so I listened to them." He said. Letsebe defected from the BNF to the BCP at the same time as Kgatleng East Member of Parliament, Isaac Mabiletsa and Terence Thebe, a specially elected councillor. He said Mabiletsa had convinced him that the chaos in the BNF warranted a defection. He said he now regrets his move. The councillor claimed that his defection would cost BCP at least 200 members, including his campaign manager, Johannes Molatlhegi and ward secretary, Dumisane Tiro. He said his recruits, who will be first-time voters in 2014, are defecting with him to the BNF.
