BCP condemns Motswaledi's treatment

The Botswana Congress Party Youth League has condemned the ruling party for the suspension of its secretary general, Gomolemo Motswaledi.

At a press conference yesterday, the BCP youth publicity secretary Seabelo Thekiso said that "as much as Motswaledi is a member of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), the treatment he got from the BDP has dented the image of democracy and as patriots, we need to raise our voice against this bad practice by the BDP leadership". He said they support Motswaledi as a citizen of Botswana and that his right for contest elections have been violated.

Meanwhile BCP Youth League president Lotty Manyapetsa has welcomed the National Broadcasting Board's (NBB) judgment against BDP for abuse of state media. The NBB found Botswana Television (Btv) and Radio Botswana guilty of airing a political statement from President Ian Khama talking about internal feuding in the BDP. The broadcasters have been accused of favouratism for giving the BDP prime time to advance its interests while the same is not granted to opposition parties.
