BCP chickens out of by-elections

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has chickened out of contesting the January 31 by-elections in two of the three wards, to pave the way for the UDC.

The BCP will contest only in Moshupa West ward. On Friday following the Minister’s proclamation of the re-run in the three wards, nominations were received for Ngware, Goodhope and Moshupa West.

During the October 24, 2014 General Elections the BCP tied with the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) at Moshupa West ward, while on Ngware and Goodhope; the ruling party came neck-to-neck with the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).
