The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has expressed deep concern at the rate at which national exam results have been deteriorating over the years.

Addressing a press conference last Friday at the Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC), the BCP secretary for public education Dr Philip Bulawa said evidence shows beyond doubt that this situation has now reached what can only be described as crisis levels.

"While as a nation, we were still reeling from shock due to the disastrous and devastating nature of the 2012 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), the Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE) results were even more catastrophic, painting a very bleak future for the youths of this country," he said. He said the 2012 JCE results show that out of a total of 38 385 who wrote the exam, only five candidates obtained merit, 590 obtained grade A, 4 722 - grade B, 10320 - grade C, 13 031 grade D, 4 724 grade E and 4 996 - grade U.
