SELBI-PHIKWE: BCL Mine will on Friday host a traditional cuisine and dance event at Selebi-Phikwe stadium to raise funds for children with disabilities.

In an interview, BCL public relations and marketing manager, James Molosankwe called on all stakeholders - including private companies to support this worthy cause. He told Mmegi that a Special Education Unit at Joseph Anderson Memorial Primary School has been identified as the beneficiary for 2011. Molosankwe explained that the unit caters for children living with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy (physical impairment), visual impairment, speech, and language and learning difficulties.

He observed that the unit has a myriad of needs that include transport and mobility services such as wheelchairs and a vehicle, resource room, pre-vocational center, attaining equipment and hearing aids as well as orthopedic shoes. He said the center also needs occupational therapy equipment and other facilities for physiotherapy. He explained that the event has been influenced by the spirit of creating sustainable communities and is also complying with the mine's initiatives in the area of community development. "The aim of the project is to raise funds for charity organisations and community programmes in the endeavour to uplift the Selebi-Phikwe community and the entire region," he said.
