SELEBI-PHIKWE: The rampant theft of explosives from BCL mine has forced the management to seek help from the police and to organise workshops to educate the public.

BCL mine security superintendent Noah Makaba told Mmegi this week that recently they hosted a workshop, in conjunction with the police, at Mathathane to educate the public on how they can work with the authorities to prevent the illegal use of explosives.

He said they are planning another workshop to be attended by police from Serowe and Tswapong regions where the construction of  Thune, Lotsane and Dikgatlhong dams has also become a easy target for explosives' thieves.
He stated that the police must be on the look out and the Chinese companies constructing the dams must have strict security measures to avoid explosives theft.  Makaba stated that explosives stolen from the dam construction sites or the mine are used in criminal activities such as blasting safe boxes and bank ATMs.
