Barata-phathi stake their campaign on democracy

MATSHELAGABEDI: As the standoff between the factions of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) goes on an unprecedented public parade, the so-called Barata-phathi have vowed to defend inner-party democracy and to promote the constitution of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

The Kedikilwe-Kwelagobe faction, as Barata-phathi are otherwise known, has apparently decided to take on their more formidable Nkate-Merafhe adversaries who count on President Ian Khama to reinforce their fortress.

The factions are using rallies to introduce election candidates as the launch-pad for attacks on each other only a month before their party's next congress in Kanye. Outspoken MP (Specially Elected) who is running in Gaborone West South, Botsalo Ntuane, set the scene when he spoke on "Democracy and the Constitution" last Sunday in Matshelagabedi:
