BAM Re-opens Talks

Efforts by Botswana Alliance Movement (BAM) president Lepetu Setshwaelo to get the main opposition parties back to the negotiating table are yet to bear fruits. Last month, the BAM leader was given the mandate by his party to try to restart the stalled opposition cooperation talks with Botswana National Front (BNF), Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and Botswana Peoples Party (BPP).

BAM hopes to broaden the scope of the talks by drafting in civil society organisations such as NGOs, pressure groups and worker's unions as permanent observers. "I talked to Setshwaelo and he told me plans were underway to revive the talks and we will be prepared to go back to the negotiations table," said BPP president Bernard Balikani. He said BPP pulled out of the talks because the BCP refused to accommodate its ideas.
