Cabinet minister, Daniel 'DK' Kwelagobe was saved by the Speaker on Friday from an onslaught by opposition MPs over the job status of a senior aide to the Vice President Ian Khama.

The MPs were demanding to be told why Colonel Isaac Kgosi is working for the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and the Office of the Vice President. Khama is a former commander of the BDF and Kgosi has been his top aide from his military days. Kgosi became Senior Private Secretary to the Vice President in June 1998 and by then he had a mechanical technician certificate.

On Friday Gaborone Central MP, Dumelang Saleshando asked Kwelagobe to describe the job of Senior Private Secretary to the Vice President and why such a position is presently held by a soldier. The minister replied that Kgosi provides support to the Vice President through the management of his diary, secretarial and advisory services. He attends cabinet business and any matter that requires Khama's attention in running the executive affairs of government. Kwelagobe added that Kgosi is the spokesperson for Khama.
