MOCHUDI: Though journalists can be quite thick-skinned, last week's meeting at the Kgotla here subjected The Monitor to a good measure of cultural shock.

Batswana, especially Bakgatla, usually attend Kgotla meetings kitted out in traditional attire - matoisi (German print) and shawls (megagolwana) over shoulders for women while the menfolk don mekobolo and carry sticks.

But such was not the case when Vice-President Mompati Merafhe visited the principal town of Bakgatla-ba-ga-Kgafela last week.
