Baby born on train

FRANCISTOWN: A baby-boy borne of a 38-year old Zimbabwean woman became a Motswana by-birth when it saw the light of day on a train at Pilane Station at midnight yesterday. News is that the woman was assaulted with birth pains immediately she boarded the blue train at Gaborone Station.

Engine drivers of Botswana Railways had to transmogrify themselves into midwives when they transferred the soon-to-be-mother to a first-class coach to be delivered of her burden of nine months. "There was considerable pandemonium as passengers wanted to bear witness to the great event on the journey," a witness said. But the honours of the moment of birth have to go to 71-year-old Enisi Ndlovu - also of Zimbabwe - who took it upon herself to take delivery of the new fellow in her hands.

Popular vote named the chirpy chap Stimela for being born on the train. "The mother was beaming with delight for this unusual happenstance," said another witness.
