Ba Isago students complain about late allowances

FRANCISTOWN: Government-sponsored Ba Isago College students have complained that they have not received settling allowances or stipends from the Ministry of Education this year. The students told Mmegi that many of them do not have accommodation in Francistown or Gaborone where the college has campuses. They said the delay in getting their stipend is punishing.

"Now our parents have to cover our rent and toiletries and it is costly," lamented a student who preferred anonymity for fear of reprisals. The director of Student Placement and Welfare at the Ministry of Education, Bosele Radipotsane, said that he was not really sure if the students had been paid yet. However, he said if they have not been paid, the delay might have been caused by the fact that they began classes late.

"They can only get bank cards after they have registered at the school and we have been receiving information about some cards," he said. Radipotsane told Mmegi that Ba Isago students are not the only group that experienced the delay.
