Auditor fumes over 'truant' barman

A former industrial class employee who was employed as a barman at the Members Recreation Club at the Parliamentary Village in Gaborone had pulled a fast one on his employers.

A year after he had absconded from his job as a barman he continued to draw a salary from government.

"Although he had not reported for duty since August 2007,his wages were credited to his bank account and the advice slips routinely forwarded to him at the end of every month until December 2007,when payments were stopped by the Accountant General, at the instance of audit. At the time of going to press the erroneous payments made to him totalled P10, 033.35.
