FRANCISTOWN: The State of Africa's Children Report of 2008 recognises "... the need to position child survival at the heart of Africa's development and human rights agenda."

As we celebrate the Day of the African Child, we look at Botswana and how children are faring in this country.

Botswana has been commended for the strides made in the field of education especially in terms of infrastructural development. Legal instruments are in place to protect children from exploitation and sexual abuse. For instance, sexual abuse by teachers, sex with a member of the family, sex with a child less than 16 years, child labour are all criminalised as they attract heavy punishment on the part of the offender.
