Arsonist gets six years for attempted murder

FRANCISTOWN: A man who attempted to burn his girlfriend inside a hut has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Justice Mpaphi Phumaphi of the High Court here sentenced Patrick Shima Ramagala to six years for attempted murder and six years for arson. The sentences will run concurrently.

Convicting and sentencing the accused, Justice Phumaphi said there was no doubt that the accused had committed the two crimes because the evidence of witnesses had placed him at the scene while his actions before the fire pointed to him as the culprit.
