Army officers need psychological help

Recently a retired soldier of the Botswana Defence Force's elite Military Intelligence unit did something that shocked even himself. He choked his wife. "I held her throat in the grip of my index finger and my thumb" he says, holding the empty air, biting his lower lip, frowning and flaring his nose such that momentarily he has the evil look of a remorseless killer.

It was the first time he had been violent to anyone close to himself, let alone his wife.

He has always known that he was a killing machine but whatever killer resides inside him was always under the wraps of professional standards from rigorous psychological training and ethical practice. It was a machine that could be unleashed at request for specific purposes. And choking a wife was definitely not on that list.
