Archives Advisory Council coming

The Department of National Archives and Records Services (DNARS) will implement a proposal made by the then Permanent Secretary to the President in 1992 to establish an Archives Advisory Council chaired by an outsider and not the director of Archives.

It is also proposed that the council members should be increased to 10 instead of five to broaden its scope and provide a wider representation.

The Amendment Bill presented to Parliament yesterday will also cater for keeping electronic records, including videos. However, this did not go down well with outspoken Member of Parliament for Palapye, Boyce Sebetela, who said the time it took the minister responsible to implement the idea was a sign that there was inefficiency in government.  "I don't know how to explain this," he said.
