Applicant yet to get SHHA plot after 27 years

The longest waiting applicant for a Self-Help Housing Agency (SHHA) plot in Jwaneng applied on March 14, 1985, the Minister of Lands and Housing, Lebonaamang Mokalake, told parliament on Tuesday.

He told the house that 1,900 people are currently on the Jwaneng SHHA waiting list. He said the last batch of allocations was done in 1995 after the servicing of the Environmental Unit Seven, while one repossessed plot was allocated in 2008.

The minister disputed the suggestion by Kanye North Member of Parliament Kentse Rammidi that the protracted delay in allocating plots may encourage squatting.
